Portraits of Identity – discovering the god/goddess in you
Mythology and language play an integral part in my work. To make sense of the inexplicable, mortals created myths. The highly evocative tales of gods and half-gods who lead human lives fascinate me. These divine protagonists present us with high drama, comedy, farce and classic soap operas while indulging in the delights of ambrosia drenched with a heady mix of nectar – and, occasionally, for the sake of retribution, laced with a dose of venom. They remain to this day powerful archetypes that live in our psyche and can throw light on the many-faceted aspects of our personalities. They share our dilemmas. They mirror our pain, power, grief, triumph and, above all, our love – in all its exquisite, sorrowful, raging, jealous, and heartbreaking manifestations. They are the gods in us. And like them, we are bigger, more complex, more charismatic, more cunning and crueller than our limited perception of ourselves allows us to believe.
Myths are the marriage of mysteries and miracles. Art and language keep them alive.
